Last September I (Gretchen) had the amazing opportunity to fly to Glacier National Park in Montana. If you know me, you know I absolutely love the West. I first went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming when I was a teenager and knew at that moment the west was home. Glacier National Park rivals the Tetons in beauty and is a stunning place for an elopement! The mountains and lakes of Glacier National Park make for the perfect place to plan a unique and grand lakeside elopement.

Have you ever seen the mountains before the sun peeks over the horizon? They turn pink as the glaciers and exposed rocks are illuminated. As the birds begin singing their song the world stirs as the sun peeks over the horizon. The mountains are a magical place no matter the time of year or the time of day. Have you ever set an alarm for 2 a.m. to go and watch the milky-way rise over the tall, lonely peaks? There is little light pollution in the mountains, which makes the stars shine so brightly.

That is Glacier National Park and Northwestern Montana to me. I went there on my Honeymoon with my husband Vincent and it was incredible. The views, the hikes, the smell of fresh pine, and the mountain goats all played a part in painting a lasting image in my memory. 

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park sits at the very top of Northwestern Montana, spanning into Canada. It is not far from Banff and other iconic locations like Big Sky. It is a national park that is a little out of the way from others but personally one of my favorites!

Here are some of my favorite images from Liam & Aurelia’s elopement-styled shoot. Aurelia’s dress is by daci gowns. Their elopement took place in West Glacier at Two Medicine, with the sun setting over mountains and the haze caused by some fires in California to create the most magical haze. Any couple looking to elope in the west should consider a Glacier National Park lakeside elopement.
