Peep Flathead Lake J-chillin in the background with all the majestic power that she is. Okay but not me falling in love with Montana again and again. This land is the epitome of “the West”. The dramatic landscapes including mountains, high altitude plateaus, dense forests, and of course mountain goats. Montana is off the charts when it comes to beauty. The nickname for the state is “Big Sky” and oh boy they are not lying. okay okay enough about Montana, the real reason I’m here is to tell you about this Flathead National Forest Adventure elopement.
As mentioned in the title the location in Flathead National Forest. Not a national park. You do still need a special use permit to elope in the National Forest. The good news is that this permit allows you to elope in the Forest and doesn’t limit the location for your ceremony like Glacier National Park.
The beauty of eloping in a national forest is that there are usually WAY less people but still incredible views. When thinking about places to elope many people think about national parks. With good reason, they are gorgeous. I want to encourage you to think about other locations right outside of the parks. 9 times out of 10 they are just as beautiful and not as trafficked, regulated, or expensive to access.
For this adventurous elopement styled shoot in Flathead National Forest, Shiloe and Kiowa met us at the trailhead after a treacherous winding backroad into the high alpine wilderness. We hiked 2 miles to this overlook and let me tell you altitude is wild. I never take for granted the oxygen concentration living life in the North East. Once we reached the summit, they changed at the summit and well the rest is displayed in the following images.
