Lupines are one of the most beautiful wildflowers in the state of Maine. Everyone enjoys seeing the purple and pink flowers blanket the fields and line the roadsides.
The locals are always guaranteed to witness this beautiful time of the year. For those that wish to travel from out of state to see the flowers, it is imperative that they arrive at the right time. This can be tricky but not impossible.
So, when is the best time for viewing lupines in Maine? The best time to view lupines at their peak in the Penobscot Bay/Acadia Region is during the first and second week of June.

Some years the flowers may stay blooming for weeks, and other years for only a few days. The weather greatly affects the duration of the blooming season. If it is particularly warm, they will bloom early and for a short time. If it is cool and cloudy, they will bloom later and for a longer period of time.
In 2021, the lupines started to go to seed around June 7th. The season was shorter due to a few hot sunny days causing the lupines to go to seed. In 2023, we had a lot of rain and cool weather during the month of June. This caused the lupines to stay blooming for almost the entire month. In 2024, the lupines were just barely starting on June 1st and were at their peak in the Acadia region between June 5th and June 12th.

Why not?
Wild Lupines are easily one of the most beautiful wildflowers that grow in abundance. Your wedding day is more than just a day to get married. It is a story that you will tell your children and your grandchildren, so you might as well make that story a little extra beautiful. A simple and whimsical elopement on the coast of Maine, surrounded by lupines would be such a fun story to tell.
Lupines are only blooming for a short time each year so not a lot of people have wedding photos among them. We can help you pick the right date so you are surrounded with stunning purple and pink flowers.
Lupines grow along the roads and in some areas cover entire fields. We know multiple locations that would be perfect for your elopement in the lupines.
Different ways you can incorporate lupines on your wedding day are the following:
The first option for including a field of lupines on your wedding day is to have them be a small part of your day. You can have your private vows/ceremony among the lupines and then go for a hike. You could also have your ceremony on the rocky cliffs and then take your photos in the lupines. This kind of elopement would best fit a six or eight hour elopement package.
Option two consists of having your entire elopement in the lupine fields. You can have a ceremony and then a romantic picnic with photo sessions before, during, and after. Our four hour package is perfect for something like this. Four hours allows you to really have a day that does not feel rushed in any way.
*To reduce impact on the flowers we suggest no family members or friends in the fields.
